The rising sea levels and storms pose a serious threat to our seaside town of Aberaeron…
Councillor Keith Henson
Aberaeron Coastal Defence Scheme
A £32m coastal defence scheme to protect the welsh seaside village of Aberaeron from rising sea levels, flooding and coastal erosion was completed in 2025.
The construction works included the creation of a new rock breakwater extending out from one of the coastal piers, refurbishment of the opposite pier-head, revamping of existing sea defaces and the installation of a flood gate for the inner harbour area.
Rock Armour from Norway
Barges from Norway brought large stone blocks – Rock Armour – to build the revetments, breakwaters, and flood walls. Images (above) show the rune like markings on the breakwater blocks…
