Boscastle Harbour: Cornwall 2023
Boscastle is a small fishing village with a harbour on the coast of north Cornwall.
The harbour entrance is a very narrow, natural inlet, protected by two stone harbour walls. The harbour was built in 1584 by Sir Richard Grenville and is the only significant harbour for 20 miles along the coast.
Whilst the concealed nature of the harbour entrance offered protection to the village, it also provided challenges for ships entering and leaving the port. In the days of sail, rowing boats were needed to tow ships into the harbour area.
Like Boscastle village, the harbour was damaged by serious flooding in 2004.
