A last, emotional return for heroic British soldiers

About D-Day 60
These images are from the D-Day 60 commemorations, Portsmouth, and were taken over the weekend of 6th June 2004. The events included remembrance ceremonies and a veteran’s parades, plus ‘Euro Rock’ – a rock concert involving bands from across Europe with Portsmouth’s ‘Common Revolt’ representing the UK.
D-Day 60 was, at the time, thought to be the last time that veterans would gather in France to mark the anniversary of the 1944 D-Day landings. That would, of course, nor be the case and the ‘Markings’ protect includes images from D-Day 70 and D-Day 75.
“This date 6 June means so much to everyone in Normandy. They will always mark this occasion and honour those who came to us as our liberators. Today is an opportunity to pass that message on to our children…”
André Ledran, Mayor of Ouistreham
Currently, all images form an uncurated collection. At the end of the project, there will be curate a collection of images that, when considered together, best represent the project.
