Anxious Journeys is an emerging series of photographs influenced by the Metaphysical art of the Italian painter Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978) and based on journeys I have made…
These images were taken during a stay in the small Italian village of Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi in 2019. As part of Sant’Agata’s IX Festival Artisti di Strada a number of street performances were taking place, including a spectacular fire show – Danzando sul fuoco – and a performance by the Italian clown character Pulcinella Poeta.
Pulcinella
Pulcinella is a classical Italian character that originated in commedia dell’arte in c1620.
“Pulcinella was raised by two fathers, Maccus and Bucco. Maccus is described as being witty, sarcastic, rude, and cruel, while Bucco is a nervous thief who is as silly as he is full of himself.[2] This duality manifested itself in both the way Pulcinella is shaped and the way he acts.” Wikipedia
