RAF Valley on Anglesey is home to No 4 Flying Training School, responsible for training the UK’s next generation of world-class fighter pilots. RAF Valley website
RAF Valley – which is also used as Anglesey Airport – provides fast-jet training and mountain and maritime training for aircrew.
the main aircraft stationed at the base are the Beechcraft T-6C Texan II (tandem seat turbo prop basic trainer), the BAE Systems Hawk T2 (single-engine advanced jet trainer) and the Jupiter T1 helicopter.
The airfield was opened in 1941 with Hawker Hurricanes and Bristol Beaufighters defending the north-west and shipping in the Irish Sea. the base was also home to 275 Squadron with flew air-sea rescue missions, In 1943 the runways were extend and the base became staging point for US aircraft making transatlantic flights.
After the war time operations the airfield became a training base in 1951.
