Dolgarrog Village
Dolgarrog is situated between Llanrwst and Conwn on the A470.
The village is now renowned as the site of the ‘world-first inland surf lagoon’ at Adventure Parc Snowdonia and one of Wales’ leading tourist centres.
Industry though has shaped Dolgarrog’s past with its acess water powering flour mills, saw mills and, from 1895, an aluminium smelting works and hydro electric power station,
It was also the scene of Wales’ worst dam accident when sixteen people lost their lives in 1925 following the failure of the Eigiau Dam.
The accident led directly to Parliament introducing new laws on the safety of reservoirs and a memorial woodland walk commemorates the Dolgarrog Dam Disaster.
