Ceremonies and Parades – this section is Remembrance and features remembrance ceremonies that have taken place as part of the D-Day commemorations as well as those events that have taken place annually on 11th November.
The Unreturning project focuses on Remembrance – taking its name from a poem by Wilfred Owen, the Shropshire First World War poet.
Since it’s initial inception, the work has grown exponentially and the challenge has been to find a way to bring the very different and diverse strands together in a coherent way. I am currently working on the idea that pictures will be divided into three sections or themes:
- Representations: re-enactments of the D-Day landing (both authentic and modern), reenactors and relics – such as ships, vehicles and planes,
- Remembrance: the act of remembrance – the ceremonies and parades
- Requiem: the legacy
