In early 2016 we visited Barcelona for a short break – watching FC Barcelona play in the Camp Nou had been an ambition.
Whilst in Barcelona I took many pictures (at the time I only exported family holiday images) and I have now revisited these images and reworked them – digitally remastered in musical terms – to match more closely my Mystery and Melancholy methodology.
This has been an interesting experiment – as the mystery and melancholy methodology wasn’t consciously codified as a style until the summer of 2018. It is though a style that– subconsciously at least – has been developing in my work for several years.
The consistency of these images – the way they fit to the style – is also slightly patchy as they were shot on a DSLR camera – the processing of the Melancholy style was designed to maximise the qualities of my micro four thirds camera’s smaller sensor and the exposure control of the electronic view finder (EVF) but, overall, I’m really pleased how these now fit into this series and will now be looking to rework more images.
The Barcelona images has now been included in my Anxious Journeys Series – an emerging series of photographs influenced by the Metaphysical art of the Italian painter Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978) and based on journeys I have made..
